Coaching for Executives

About coaching

When you need space to think clearly about what you are leading

Leading a commercial function - or an organisation - within the cultural sector carries a level of responsibility that is not always visible from the outside.

You are balancing income, people, and organisational direction, often within complex and carefully governed environments.

You likely are:

  • Balancing financial performance with organisational priorities.
  • Supporting teams while maintaining accountability.
  • Navigating expectations from boards, colleagues, and stakeholders.

Over time, it is easy to become absorbed in the day-to-day demands of the role.

Operational decisions, team issues, and immediate pressures can take up most of your attention - leaving limited space to step back and think more strategically.

Clients Words

Steve Gardam

As a coach, I found Lucy to be warm, insightful, and the right level of challenging, making clear suggestions for action, served up lightly and always seasoned with care.
I worked with Lucy when I had chosen to change up my career after ten years in one role. Even though I always strive to work at my own self-awareness, speaking with Lucy over just three sessions was instrumental in revealing and unpacking some sticking points I needed to address to move ahead with confidence. With Lucy's help, I did.
When I need a coach again, Lucy will be my first call.

Expand Your Thinking

What coaching makes possible

Coaching provides a structured space to step out of the operational demands of the role and think more clearly.

Our conversations focus on:

    creating space for strategic thinking

working through complex decisions and competing priorities

understanding what is happening within your team or organisation

identifying where your time and attention are currently being spent

considering where change is needed - and what that might look like

It is also a space to speak openly, to reflect on challenges, test ideas, and work through situations that are difficult to explore within the organisation itself.

    The Benefits

    What often changes

Coaching helps to shift how leaders use their time and attention.

They begin to step back from constant involvement in day-to-day decision-making and gain greater clarity on where their focus is most needed.

    This often leads to:

    • clearer strategic direction
    • more intentional decision-making
    • improved understanding of team dynamics and organisational patterns
    • greater confidence in navigating complexity and uncertainty
    • a stronger sense of perspective on performance and targets

Perhaps most importantly, leaders no longer feel they are carrying everything alone.

They have a space to think, reflect, and work through challenges - which allows them to lead with greater clarity.

    Who I work with

I work with senior leaders including:

    • Commercial Directors
    • Directors and Heads of Department
    • Chief Executives

Most are experienced and well-established in their roles, often with several years in post.

They are leading organisations or significant areas of activity across museums, galleries, theatres, parks, and charities.

They are capable, trusted, and carry a significant share of organisational responsibility.

    My approach

My approach is shaped by many years working in senior roles within cultural organisations, leading commercial teams and delivering significant income across complex environments.

    I understand the realities of:

    • balancing income with mission
    • working within risk-aware organisations
    • leading teams through pressure and change
    • carrying responsibility at a senior level

Coaching is about creating a space where you can think clearly, be challenged where needed, and develop your own direction with confidence.

    How coaching works

Sessions take place either online or in person in London.

Coaching is delivered through one-to-one conversations. Sessions provide structured space to reflect on current challenges, explore options, and develop practical next steps.

Sessions can work around your team  schedule, weekly or monthly. Most coaching sessions are 1 hour in length.

Some people work with me for a defined period of several sessions focused on a particular challenge. Others choose ongoing coaching as part of their leadership development.

    Starting the conversation

If you would value a space to think more clearly about your role, your organisation, and the challenges you are navigating, a conversation can be a useful place to start.

A short discovery call allows us to explore:

    • what you are currently dealing with
    • where you would benefit from more clarity or space
    • whether coaching would be useful

If it feels like a good fit, we can then shape an approach that works for you.

If you’re considering coaching support, I’d recommend booking a discovery call as early as possible. This allows us to explore fit and availability.

    What is executive coaching?

Executive coaching creates space to think clearly in roles that are often complex, high-pressure, and highly visible.

Exec coaching is about helping you step back from day-to-day demands, make sense of competing priorities, and strengthen how you approach decision-making, leadership, and strategy.

    Who is executive coaching for?

Executive coaching is designed for senior leaders who are carrying significant responsibility.

    This often includes:

    • Directors and Heads of Department
    • Senior leaders navigating change or growth
    • People managing multiple stakeholders or complex environments

It’s particularly useful if you’re operating in a system where decisions are rarely straightforward and time to think is limited.

What kinds of challenges can coaching help with?

People typically come to coaching when they are:

    • Navigating competing priorities and stakeholder demands
    • Feeling stuck or looping around the same issues
    • Stepping into a more senior role or increased responsibility
    • Making complex or high-stakes decisions
    • Leading through change or uncertainty

Coaching helps you work through these challenges in a structured, thoughtful way.

    Is coaching confidential?

    Yes. Coaching conversations are confidential.

How is this different from mentoring or consultancy?

Consultancy provides answers. Mentoring shares experience.

I won’t tell you what to do. Instead, I’ll help you think more clearly, test your assumptions, and work through challenges in a way that strengthens your own judgement.

The goal is not dependency - it’s capability.

How long should I commit to coaching?

It is totally up to you to determine how long you want and need coaching for.

What happens in a coaching session?

Sessions are structured but led by what you’re navigating.

    We might:

    • Work through a current challenge
    • Explore a decision you’re facing
    • Step back and look at patterns or recurring issues
    • Test thinking and assumptions

The focus is always on helping you move forward with clarity.

Do you have space for new coaching clients?

I work with a limited number of coaching clients at any one time. As a result, availability can be limited.
